PuroClean Chicago - Water Damage Client Testimonial

I had a pipe burst in the basement and about 4 inches plus water on the floor.  Scott and his team at PuroClean Chicago brought in a mountain of dryers and did a great job.  I have called him with questions a couple of times since on unrelated water damage matters, and he is always forthcoming with practical suggestions, even when it means he doesn’t make a lot of money on the job or at all.  I would use without hesitation again.

Excellent response time.  Practical advice.  Knows his business.  Good to deal with.

PuroClean Chicago - Mold Test Client Testimonial

Scott was very punctual. He came and inspected the house for mold. He found some in the basement, under the bathroom and where there was some flooding. He told me what was involved in remediation, if it was necessary. He took a test for all kinds of airborne mold. The test results had to be sent out of town to a lab. He got back to me on the day promised. The lab report broke out each time of airborne mold. Fortunately, the level of each was below what would require remediation.  The important thing is that he didn’t try to have me involved in remediation which I didn’t need. The detail of the lab results was very thorough, so I’m much better informed of what I’m faced with. I am very happy with his professionalism and the entire experience.

Did you know that higher temperatures increase hidden odors in carpets!

Have you ever noticed that when warmer weather arrives there are sometime new odors, more pungent odors, or even that odor you thought you had gotten rid of comes back?   That’s because the higher the temperature the more noticeable the odor.  Volatile organic compounds (VOC’s) are the source of most odors and become much more easily airborne as temperatures rise.  Also, bacteria can grow quickly as temperatures rise.  This is why carpets that have no perceptible odor on cool days during the winter might have a more noticeable odor during hotter days in the summer.

This might explain why your carpet that you spilled water, soda pop, coffee, milk or any type of liquid on that didn’t smell after you cleaned up the spill is suddenly smelling very different as it gets warmer outside.  This is also true if you had a pet soil the carpet and then smell the unmistakable odor of pet urine.

If bacteria grows after there is some type of liquid spilled and isn’t clean thoroughly any heat and moisture will provide nourishment to the bacteria and will start to multiply. Bacteria also feeds off of food residues which can cause a sour odor as temperatures rise.  Bacteria multiply very quickly once activated, so odors can appear quickly.

If you don’t use a professional carpet cleaner and instead use a rental machine from the local grocery store make sure you know of all locations that may have had some liquid damage or bacteria growth and consider pretreating these areas, clean the areas thoroughly, and be prepared to clean them more than once to ensure the odor will not return.

Make sure you do something proactively, such as place fans on the floor, to dry the carpets as soon as you are done with the cleaning.  This will help dry the carpet so no new bacteria grow to create new odors.
